Montana Bill aims to Protect Wolf Hunters from Bullying

State Sen. Debby Barrett of Dillon wants to make it illegal to “harass, threaten, or intimidate by any means” a hunter. Her Senate Bill 133 would also restrict the release of hunter information by the Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks.

In some cases during and after the wolf hunt the names of hunters were posted on the Internet by opponents to the hunt. Some hunters said at the time that opened them up to harassment.

“It is true that hunter harassment happens, it happened around controversial issues, like the hunting of wolves,” said Ben Lamb, with the Montana Wildlife Federation.

But the FWP said the bill is too broad and would prevent them from releasing hunting information to other agencies, and even within the department.
